Dr. Hume

Dr. Ben Hume was born in Brandon, SD, a small town outside of Sioux Falls, right on the MN-SD border.

He graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Minnesota State-Mankato in 2002 and went on to obtain his degree in Optometry at Illinois College of Optometry in 2006, just 2 years after Dr. Korthals graduated from ICO!

Dr. Hume and his family of wife, Shelly, and children, Whitley, Weston, and Wells have moved here from Colorado to be closer to family so they’ve built a new home in Mound, a few blocks from Lake Minnetonka, and close to one of Dr. Hume’s sisters and her family.  The family is trading mountains for lakes and family! Life is a little chaotic right now so Shelly, who is an RN who specializes in interventional radiology and the ICU is taking a break from work to stay home with their 3 little ones.

Dr. Hume enjoys long distance running so he’s looking forward to exploring Minnesota trails and parks.  He’s also a lifelong diehard Twins and Vikings fan so he’s looking forward to attending some games. We also discovered that he can hit a mean golf ball at one of our team outings at Top Golf!  Who knew?

In his own words, what he loves about being an Optometrist:

“I love becoming part of the community as a trusted optometrist for patients of all ages.  Optometry is a very social profession and I love interacting and learning about so many people daily and building those relationships over the years.  I also have really poor eyesight so I love keeping up to date on all the new technology coming out and being able to offer it to patients.”

Dr. (Perreault) Pirruccello

Dr. Stacy (Perreault) Pirruccello  joined the Maple Grove Eye Doctors team in April of 2021. Dr. Pirruccello  grew up in Grand Rapids, MN and graduated from the University of North Dakota. She received her Degree of Optometry from the Arizona College of Optometry and decided to move back to Minnesota to be closer to her family. Dr. Pirruccello’s husband ( they just got married in June 2022!), Salvatore, just graduated as a veterinary technician in Dec.2022!

Guess what? They currently have three cats, two dogs, and a few fish tanks, and Dr. Pirruccello  says that she would not be surprised if that list continues to grow, as Salvatore starts his career 😊.

Her hobbies include hiking with their dogs, gardening, and spending time at the lake where they love going to visit her parents to spend time boating, fishing, and swimming.

Dr. Pirruccello  and Salvatore currently live in Saint Louis Park, MN.

In her own words, Dr. Pirruccello ’s favorite part of being an optometrist is “taking care of my patients and seeing them year to year. It’s like seeing an old friend and being able to catch up on each other’s live and I wanted to join the Maple Grove Eye Doctor team because of the Hawley Family’s involvement in the community. My brother and I went to the same eye doctor every year growing up and I always enjoyed the process of getting new glasses and contact lenses. I want to provide that same care for my patients and their families.”

Dr. Ziegler

Dr. Samantha Ziegler is the Director of Optometry for the Maple Grove Eye Doctors team at Pearle Vision in Maple Grove.

Dr.  Ziegler grew up in Maple Grove and then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. She obtained her Degree of Optometry from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, in June 2018. Dr. Ziegler is happy to be back living in NE Minneapolis and working with the team of Maple Grove Eye Doctors at Pearle Vision in the community where she grew up.

In her free time, Dr. Ziegler finding new restaurants, and spending time with her husband, Calvin (as of July 2018!) who is currently in law schoolDr. Ziegler loved science in high school, working as an optometric tech, where she fell in love with the profession of optometry. She enjoys helping patients see the world more clearly with glasses and/or contacts. She enjoys that patients are usually happy to see their eye doctor.

Dr. Wingard

Dr. Barrett Wingard lives in downtown Minneapolis. He grew up in South Central Pennsylvania and graduated from Boston College in MA. Dr. Barrett obtained his Degree in Optometry from Illinois College of Optometry where he fell in love with the Midwest from his colleagues who, upon graduation started to “flock to the Twin Cities”, so he did also!

Dr. Barrett has a young tortoise shell cat named Aurora , and he loves cooking, playing music, exploring the outdoors and spending quality time with my friends and family.

He has just joined the team at Maple Grove Eye Doctors at Pearle Vision in June of 2022, bc he was really drawn to the environment of the clinic and the neighborhood as a whole. The opportunity to treat patients at a high level at this clinic really appealed to him, as well as the ability to involve himself within the community.

In his own words, Dr. Barrett says “My favorite part of being an optometrist is the impact that I am able to make on a daily basis. Allowing people to be healthier through eye examinations and get the most out of their vision to enjoy life using the gift of sight.”
