Children require special attention in a lot of ways, including their health care—and, more specifically, their eye care. And those with diabetes need even better care. According to a recent study, despite recommendations for yearly eye exams, only 64% of 1,112 children with type 1 diabetes were screened for retinopathy in the two years they were studied. Herein lies the argument for more collaborative relationships between diabetes care providers and optometrists to improve the chances of patients getting more frequent eye exams and better eye care.
